On this International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, let's look back at the origins of the Veintree concept, the revolutionary breakthrough in next-generation biometric authentication which completely protects personal data.
During the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti in 2010, Dr. Christophe Bron, Eduard Tschan and Patrizia Coppola (now partners in the Veintree project) were working in the field as part of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ "Earthquake" operation.
Dr. Christophe Bron, confronted with the consequences of broken ties and identities between surviving but displaced and separated children and parents, decided to devote years of research and effort to creating a solution that would meet the unique challenges of conflict situations and humanitarian disasters.
The event highlighted the crucial importance of new communication technologies and digitalization in enabling rapid and accurate authentication of victims and survivors, in order to bring relief and inform in real time, both the authorities in charge of relief and logistics as well as the rescuers and beneficiaries, with the aim of reuniting and helping families.
